On Thursday, the South Lawn of the White House looked a little different than it has for the past eight years — the playset installed in 2009 for young Sasha and Malia Obama had been removed. The disappearance was first noticed by CBS White House correspondent Mark Knoller, who decided to get to the bottom of it.

“Noticed something missing behind @POTUS and @VP yesterday,” he tweeted. “The playset positioned outside the Oval Office in March 2009 for youngsters Malia and Sasha has been removed.”

Knoller asked around to find out what had been done with the playset, which was purchased by the Obamas soon after they moved to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, and discovered something quite interesting. According to a White House official, President Obama offered to leave the playset for President-elect Donald Trump’s grandchildren and young son Barron to use, but Trump apparently declined the offer.

Instead, the playset was removed and donated to a “local organization serving those in need.”
