Ben Affleck also stands with Meryl Streep.
After President-elect Donald Trump referred to Streep as an “overrated” actress in an angry tweet, Affleck came out in her defense.
“If there’s one truly in the world that we know is not true, it’s that Meryl Streep is overrated,” Affleck said on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
“In fairness to Donald Trump though, the nicest insult he can give someone is that they are overrated,” Kimmel said.
Affleck agreed, but added, “You can pick a better shot rather than the person whose photograph actually accompanies ‘Great Actress.'”
Affleck joins a long list of celebrities who have come out in support of Streep and her acceptance speech at the Golden Globes. During her speech, she expressed her heartache after Trump made fun of a handicapped reporter during a rally.
“It kind of broke my heart, and I saw it, and I still can’t get it out of my head because it wasn’t in a movie. It was real life,” Streep said. “And this instinct to humiliate when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing.”
