Former Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly might be going “Oprah” style

Megyn Kelly’s days of hard news and combative interviews might be over. The former Fox News anchor, who famously sparred with then-presidential candidate Donald Trump and recently signed a multi-million-dollar deal with NBC, appears to be seeking something a bit softer.

While her new show, which will likely debut in September and air either at 9 a.m. or 10 a.m., has been kept under wraps, Page Six reports that sources say Kelly wants “to help people the way Oprah did.”

“There was a lot of tough news to report on her show at Fox News. A lot of combative interviewing, going after people. Doing that every night was difficult. Megyn feels she has more to offer,” the source told Page Six. “She wants to help people the way Oprah did, and do something more positive. She’ll be focusing on issues and bringing in real people as well as celebrities. Plus, she has a sense of humor and she wants to use that.”

This idea actually isn’t new for Kelly, who remains under contract with Fox News until July 1. In 2015, Kelly told Variety, “Barbara Walters has retired, Diane Sawyer left her anchor role. Oprah has moved to the OWN network and is doing a different thing now. So why not me?”

NBC is said to be interviewing executive producers for Kelly’s show. Sources tell Page Six that she wants someone outside of NBC to handle the role.

“Megyn doesn’t want a [Matt] Lauer loyalist running her show. She wants a team who she can trust and that will have her back,” another source said.
