After taking heat via Twitter for her impression of Melania Trump during Sunday’s American Music Awards, Gigi Hadid shared a handwritten note on her Twitter account Monday evening to apologize…kind of.
“I was honored to host the AMA’s last night and to work with some of the most respected writers in the business,” she wrote. “I removed or changed anything in the script that I felt took the joke too far, and whether or not you choose to see it, what remained was done in good humor and with no bad intent.”
Hadid went on to say that while she’s sorry the joke was not well-received by all, she still thinks Melania Trump herself might have found it funny.
“I too have been the center of a nationally televised comedy skit that poked fun at my actions and was able to find the humor in it,” she continued. “I believe Melania understands show business and the way shows are written and run. I apologize to anyone that I offended & have only the best wishes for our country.”
Perhaps Donald Trump’s failure to also come to his wife’s defense on Twitter is a sign that Hadid did in fact get a laugh from the future first lady.
