Ryan Seacrest has finally opened up about Mariah Carey’s performance on ABC’s “Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Years Eve.”

On Thursday morning, the talk show host took a moment to discuss what happened that night during “On Air With Ryan Seacrest,” according to E! News.
“It is difficult to perform in Times Square,” Seacrest said. “I mean, she had done it before, because she was the first musical guest that we had had live when I started doing the show a decade ago. So she had seen it; she knows what Times Square is about. It’s complicated.”

“I don’t know what you realize on TV or you see, but imagine: Every single TV outlet in the world is there. There’s all kinds of technical things going on.”
Seacrest was the one who introduced Mariah that night but said he didn’t actually see what happened.

“It’s live television, and things happen on live TV — if something goes wrong, it’s unfortunate for anybody,” he added.
On Saturday, Carey was set to sing her hit song “Emotion” when the track didn’t go on, and she was caught on camera lip syncing.

“Well, happy new year. We can’t hear,” Mariah said to the crowd. “I’ll just get through the moment, okay?”
“We’re missing some of these vocals, but it is what it is,” she said. “I’m going to say let the audience sing, okay? We didn’t have a soundcheck, but it’s New Year’s baby. That’s okay, you guys.”
At the end of her performance, an annoyed and somewhat flustered Mariah told the audience, “That was… amazing.” Hours later, Mariah responded to what happened and tweeted, “S**t happens.” “Have a happy and healthy new year everybody! Here’s to making more headlines in 2017.”

Days later, Mariah spoke to Entertainment Weekly in her first interview after the disastrous performance.
“All I can say is Dick Clark was an incredible person and I was lucky enough to work with him when I first started in the music business,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “I’m of the opinion that Dick Clark would not have let an artist go through that, and he would have been as mortified as I was in real time.”
