In a new campaign for See America, a new initiative to fight against preventable blindness in the United States, Common urges us all to “stand in the way of darkness.”

Using his incredible talent for spoken word, Common calls for Americans to make their vision a priority.

“Picture this: our eyes begin to blur and colors fade. The world closes in,” he says to the camera. “This is vision loss. Sixty-one million Americans are at risk of losing their sight. Is this your future? Is this your vision?”

Americans can work to prevent blindness by taking everyday steps to prioritize their vision. Comprehensive eye exams can help detect early eye diseases like diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and glaucoma. All of these diseases may be treatable if detected early.

“I’m proud to join Allergan in the fight against preventable blindness,” said Common of joining Allergan’s new initiative. “Sight is something that far too many of us take for granted. I hope our message resonates with people across the country, no matter what age or background.”
