Seems that Paris Jackson is as angry as everyone else that actor Joseph Fiennes is playing her father in the upcoming series Urban Myths. Many are angry that a white actor was chosen to play the African-American King of Pop Michael Jackson, and his daughter is on the same page.
“I’m so incredibly offended by it, as I’m sure plenty of people are as well,” Jackson responded when asked for her thoughts on Fiennes’ casting.
She continued expressing her anger in additional tweets, saying, “It angers me to see how obviously intentional it was for them to be this insulting, not just towards my father, but my godmother liz as well,” of Elizabeth Taylor.
Urban Myths is based on a rumored road trip that the late Michael Jackson is said to have gone on with Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando after their flights were grounded following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
“Where is the respect? They worked through blood sweat and tears for ages to create such profound and remarkable legacies. Shameful portrayal,” Jackson continued, concluding, “He made a point of it plenty of times to express his pride in his roots. He would never have wanted this.”
Her cousin Taj, son of Tito Jackson, also shared his reaction on Twitter, saying, “Unfortunately this is what my family has to deal with. No words could express the blatant disrespect.”
Fiennes was cast last January and defended the decision by saying, “I deal in imagination, so I don’t think imagination should have rules stamped on them.”
Urban Myths will premiere on January 19 on Sky Arts.
