Reports circulated earlier this week that singer Paul Anka would be on hand in Washington, D.C., to perform at the 2017 presidential inauguration. Radar Online claimed that Anka would sing “My Way,” as President-elect Donald Trump and future First Lady Melania Trump shared their first dance.

On Friday, Anka spoke with TMZ about that claim and said that he would not be able to make it to D.C.

According to Anka, he will have to miss the inauguration after a chance to see his son popped up.

“The President-Elect is an old friend of mine for 50 years, there was a dialogue to do it. ‘My Way’ is his favorite song,” Anka told TMZ. “I’ve been in a custody battle for two years for my son Ethan, and we have a new schedule now, and I’m unable to do it.”

According to Anka, he has a great respect for the office of the presidency, though he wouldn’t reveal his own political views. “You have a better chance getting sunrise past a rooster on that one,” he said.
