President Barack Obama took on the role of guest editor for the November issue of Wired Magazine and shared a list of his favorite sci-fi movies.

According to the Wired article, POTUS chose movies “that will expand your mind.”

Included in his list were Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey”’ because it “captures the grandeur and scale of the unknown” and Ridley Scott’s “Blade Runner” because it “asks what it means to be human.”

He also included “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” which slightly surprised us for other reason than we can’t imagine President Obama watching it, but his reason for choosing it didn’t. President Obama chose the 1977 classic because it’s “fundamentally optimistic.”
