Earlier this week, Queen Elizabeth II was almost accidentally shot by one of her own guards after taking a late-night walk.

According to what the guard told the U.K.’s The Times, the Queen had been struggling to sleep, so she decided to take stroll around the palace at 3 o’clock in the morning. That’s when the guard, who was on patrol, mistook her for an intruder. However, after calling out to see who was there, he realized it was in fact the Queen.

“Bloody hell, Your Majesty, I nearly shot you,” the guard reportedly told her.

He said that he feared she would reprimand him because he had spoken out of turn, but she didn’t seem to mind.

“That’s quite all right,” she responded. “Next time I’ll ring through beforehand, so you don’t have to shoot me.”

Queen Elizabeth II has been struggling to overcome a bad cold over the past few weeks, so she’s probably very relieved a flesh wound wasn’t added to the mix — and so are we!
