Richard Simmons, founder of the one and only “Slimmons” gym, spoke publicly about the closing of his exercise studio after 42 years in business.
The “Sweatin’ to the Oldies” star explained to reporters on Friday that he created the gym to help people make friends.
“Over the years thousands came to laugh and sweat with me,” he said. “The world and what we know about nutrition and fitness may have changed a lot since then, but the lessons shared in that little studio still apply. I’ve dedicated my life to helping others feel better about themselves and they helped me to do the same. Thank you for always supporting and loving me. I will take the time for myself to be the best I can be and so should you. I love you — always keep sweating’.”
Simmons has also been reminiscing on his Facebook page and thanking his fans for their support.
As Rare previously reported, Simmons’ studio made the official announcement on Friday that it would be shutting its doors Nov. 19.
This was Simmons’ official statement on Facebook:
“Some of you may have heard that Slimmons will close next month. While it is true, it has been an amazing part of my life to teach, meet and support people from all over the world. I want to thank everyone who has come through those studio doors to laugh, cry and sweat with me! Remember to keep sweatin’, keep movin’ and most importantly go out and Vote! Love Richard xo.”
