To anyone wondering why women are just now speaking up about being sexually assaulted by the Republican presidential nominee, actress Rose McGowan is speaking to you.

On Thursday, in an effort to explain why women do not report their assault cases, McGowan publicly shared on social media that she was raped by a Hollywood executive.

McGowan claims she did not report the assault because she was told by a female criminal attorney that “she would never win against the studio head,” using the fact that she had done a sex scene in a film to substantiate that claim.

McGowan also tweeted that a sex tape was sold to her alleged rapist for distribution.

“It’s been an open secret in Hollywood/Media & they shamed me while adulating my rapist,” she wrote on Twitter, along with the hashtag “WhyWomenDontReport.”

“It’s time for some goddamned honesty in this world,” the 43-year-old continued.

McGowan did not get specific about when she was raped, but according to news outlets, she began acting in 1992 in the movie “Encino Man” when she was 19 years old.
