It’s no secret that Princess Diana captured the hearts and minds of people around the world, so when her son Prince William’s wife, Kate Middleton, wears something she once wore, people take notice.
The Royal family dressed in full regalia this week for a diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace. As the men wore knee-high socks, the women wore tiaras, and the duchess wore a tiara once worn by Princess Diana.
As Rare wrote previously, “The tiara, which was originally made for Queen Mary in 1914, was given to Princess Diana by Queen Elizabeth as a wedding present in 1981.”
The Daily Mail notes, “It was a copy of one owned by her grandmother, Princess Augusta of Hesse, who married the first Duke of Cambridge, seventh son of King George III, in 1818.”
It is an heirloom worn through the generations, given to the Queen upon Queen Mary’s death. The tiara was said to be a favorite of Diana’s.
What a beautiful homage to a wonderful woman.
