Selena Gomez gave everyone a glimpse into her soul last night.

While accepting the award for favorite female artist in the pop/rock category, the singer took the time to update everyone on her health since she decided to take a break from the spotlight.

“I think it’s safe to say that most of you know a lot of my life, whether I like it or not. I had to stop, ’cause I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside,” Gomez said through tears. “I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down, but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down.”

“I don’t want to see your bodies on Instagram. I want to see what’s in here,” Gomez said, tapping her heart. “I’m not trying to get validation, nor do I need it anymore.”

She continued to thank her fans for their support while she has been away.

“All I can say from the bottom of my heart is I am so grateful I have the opportunity to share what I love with people that I love, and I have to say thank you so much to my fans because you guys are so damn loyal and I don’t know what I did to deserve you,” she said.

Before exiting the stage, Gomez gave everyone one more piece of advice.

“If you are broken, you do not have to stay broken,” she said. “Whether you respect me or not, one thing you should know about is I care about people.”

Audience members, including Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, were visibly moved by her words.

At the end of August, Gomez decided to take a break from the spotlight to focus on her mental heath. According to PEOPLE, sources say that she is doing better than ever.
