News of severe winter weather in North Carolina prompted these school administrators to explore the frivolity in snow days — a lightheartedness inspired in part by an academy alumnus suffering from Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Durham Academy Head of School Michael Ulku-Steiner and Assistant Head of School Director Lee Hark put a snow-day spin on the classic “Ice, Ice, Baby” and attribute their positive outlook to 1989 academy alumnus Chris Rosati who, the administrators say, is “one big inspiration for this levity.”

Mr. Rosati, after he was diagnosed with his terminal illness, (half jokingly, half not) dreamt up a scheme to steal a Krispy-Kreme truck and drive around handing out donuts to random pedestrians, reports CBS News.

The donut company somehow got wind of the plan and, rather than press charges, made the man’s wish come true.

The goodwill in North Carolina is falling like dominoes, folks.
