Buying gifts for in-laws is never easy. But when you’re the Duchess of Cambridge, things aren’t so complicated.

Many might believe that Duchess Kate Middleton is no match for Queen Elizabeth II. We beg to differ. Kate is equally as classy, sophisticated and intelligent as the Queen. Which is why she decided to present Her Majesty with a yummy bowl of chutney for Christmas.

“I was worried what to give the queen as her Christmas present,” Kate said in an interview for ITV’s “Our Queen at Ninety” documentary. “I was thinking, ‘Gosh, what should I give her?’ I thought back to what would I give my own grandparents, and I thought, ‘I’ll make her something,’ which could have gone horribly wrong. But I decided to make my granny’s recipe of chutney.”

At the time, Kate was celebrating her first Christmas with Queen Elizabeth II after marrying Prince William. Her gift was surprisingly simple and refreshingly personal.

“I was slightly worried about it, but I noticed the next day that it was on the table,” she continued. “I think such a simple gesture went such a long way for me, and I’ve noticed since she’s done that on lots of occasions. I think it just shows her thoughtfulness, really, and her care in looking after everybody.”

Will she¬†share the¬†family recipe next? We’d like some “thoughtfulness” too, Kate.
