Leia, who helped lead the fictional resistance in the “Star Wars” franchise, is a pivotal character in the history of women in cinema. Carrie Fisher, the late actress who played Leia, was a similarly popular figure among feminist movements.
Following Fisher’s death in December 2016, fans honored her memory at marches for women’s rights across the country.
