“I’ll tell you why I think he’s going to be the nominee: He’s proven that no matter what he says, people dig him,” Stern said.

Over the last three decades, Stern and Trump have both been massive figures in New York media, and Trump has joined Stern on his show many times.

Stern recalled  a conversation he had with friends about Trump to his listeners, who he thinks will be able to overcome his polarizing public persona, and tap into the hearts of Americans on the left and right.

“People are super tired of politicians, meaning that they like the idea of a successful businessman running the country who might actually be able to get shit done,” Stern said.

He also said that if people don’t take Trump seriously, they need only look at the career of another former president.

“You know, Ronald Reagan was in Bedtime for Bonzo. He was a B-list movie star who became a very successful president,” Stern said.

“And so they are looking back toward those days and hey maybe that’s the answer. Forget all these politicians who are professionals, we want to try somebody who is used to a business kind of thing,” he said.

Stern also took time to comment on rumors that he reached out to Trump to remind him that Megyn Kelly talked about her husband’s penis size while on Stern’s show in 2010.

“I thought Megyn Kelly was a total lady when she was here,” Stern said.

“Yeah, I asked her about her bra size. Big deal. There’s no smoking gun there. Again, I don’t know who these people are that write these articles,” he said.
