In an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Republican strategist Steve Schmidt gave a dismal forecast for those hoping that Republican nominee Donald Trump will become the next president.

Schmidt was asked by MSNBC host Joe Scarborough about what he believes would be a realistic election day takeaway for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“What’s the over/under on the electoral college victory for Hillary?” Scarborough inquired.

Schmidt responded that Secretary Clinton may be trending “over 400.”

A surprised Scarborough then asked if that means Democrats would take over the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Schmidt agreed that the Senate was trending Democratic, but wouldn’t offer a firm “yes” or “no” regarding the House.

“If this election was today, I think Republicans are down 25 seats (in the House), as of today — with the trend line going in the wrong direction,” Schmidt said. “The panic is beginning.”

According to 538, Donald Trump has a less than 13 percent chance of becoming the next President of the United States.
