Fans of “The West Wing” couldn’t believe their eyes when this Allison Janney appeared at the White House

A familiar face took over the White House press briefing Friday. Reporters were waiting to hear from White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest when Emmy winner Allison Janney appeared. Janney, who starred as White House Press Secretary C.J. Cregg for seven seasons on NBC’s “The West Wing,” began updating the press corp.

“Josh is out today. He has a — I believe it’s a root canal,” she joked.

“Let’s be honest: I’m better at this than he is.”

Janney was there to draw attention to the opiod epidemic, a subject that’s a central topic on her new show, “Mom,” on CBS.

Earnest did eventually return to his rightful spot at the podium, joking, “This is not your show anymore.”

But fans wanted Janney to stay.
