Michael Shannon, the actor who rose to fame for his role in Eminem’s film “8 Mile,” recently gave an interview to discuss his new film, “Nocturnal Animals.” When asked about Donald Trump, Shannon wasn’t short of words.
When asked how Trump was elected, Shannon blamed the “orange man’s” rise to power in the red states in the center of the nation, referring to the area as a “big red dildo running through the middle of our country.” He suggested that the region secede under the moniker “the United States of Moronic F*cking Assholes.” When asked about Trump’s electorate, he said, “I don’t know how people got so g*ddamn stupid…racists, sexists…this Trump thing is like getting a box of firecrackers.”
Like much of the country, he agreed that maybe Hillary Clinton’s Achilles’s heel was her background as a politician, saying, “Hillary would have been too boring, I suppose. It’s the worst thing that’s ever happened. It’s the worst. This guy is going to destroy civilization as we know it.”
However, he didn’t find himself completely unaware of the issues important to Trump voters, saying, “to a certain extent I agree with Trump…people need to have jobs.”
Though many actors in Hollywood and abroad came out strongly against Trump before the election, Shannon remained rather silent before now.
