A beloved former Fox News favorite is coming back to the cable news network

The program's deceptively simple premise is five folks sitting around a table at 5 p.m. EDT, kicking around the day's news and hot topics. This year "The Five" has emerged as Fox's second most popular show, behind only Bill O'Reilly, despite not having the larger pool of potential viewers that prime time usually provides. After a rather acrimonious departure in 2015, political pundit Bob Beckel will soon return to the Fox News airwaves. Beckel will return to “The Five,” the Fox show that he helped get off the ground.

In a statement about his return, Beckel said he was happy to “go home again.”

“I’m thrilled for the opportunity to go home again and join my television family around the table of ‘The Five,'” Beckel said.

“I have no doubt it will be a vigorous yet entertaining debate.”

According to Fox News Executive Chairman Rupert Murdoch, “Bob was missed by many fans of ‘The Five,’ and we’re happy to welcome him back to the show.”

At the time of his 2015 departure, things weren’t so cheery between Beckel at Fox. Fox News executive Bill Shine said that the network had been held “hostage to one man’s personal issues.”

“He took tremendous advantage of our generosity, empathy and goodwill and we simply came to the end of the road with him.”

In the last months of his original tenure at Fox, Beckel had sought rehabilitation for a prescription drug addiction.

Following news of his return, Beckel took to social media to celebrate.

“Today is a big day for me. I am returning to ‘The Five.’ Please watch and tell friends it’s so good to. Be back!”
