Kansas City police are currently looking for a 21-year-old woman named Jessica Runions, who has been missing since Thursday.
Runions was, according to her aunt, last seen leaving a party with her boyfriend’s childhood friend, Kylr Yust, a man with a notable criminal history.
“She’s loving, caring, she helped raise her sisters. She’s strong, independent,” Michele Runions said. “She had constant contact it’s not like her to not return phone calls maybe a long period of time but she would eventually get back with you.”
On top of past convictions for assault, theft and animal cruelty, Yust was involved in a particularly interesting case.
His ex-girlfriend Kara Kopetsky disappeared in May 2007 one week after she filed a protective order against him. She has never been found.
Runions’ black 2012 Chevy Equinox was found burned out around 2 a.m. Saturday. Currently, police are extremely concerned for her safety.
“We are very concerned for her safety. It’s suspicious circumstances, her vehicle unoccupied, burned in a remote area … [we are] just asking anyone who has had contact with her to call the police,” police spokeswoman Capt. Stacey Graves has said.
Police haven’t publicly named any suspects.
The Kansas City Police Department is asking anyone with legitimate information to contact the Missing Persons hotline at (816) 234-5136, or the TIPS hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
