We love a good rant. Who doesn’t, right? And this year’s political campaign has provided plenty of ammunition for anyone inclined to step up on the soapbox and pontificate about our presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
As nice as country stars are, even they are not exempt from the occasional rant and opinions are like — well, you know how that saying goes. Yet, some country stars are so prolific and comical with their opinions, we look for them, hope for them and anticipate them.
The Dixie Chicks’ Natalie Maines is one of those country stars who has always let her strong thoughts be known. And on Sept. 21, the Dixie Chicks’ frontwoman looked as if she was going to go on yet another one of her infamous Twitter rants. Yet, one tweet in particular showed that the good-natured country star isn’t above poking a little fun at herself and her past rants.
She tweeted, “Even Bush won’t vote for Trump! Which honestly has kind of turned my world around and forced me to rethink everything. #skiddin”. She is, of course, referring to comments she made in 2003 during a Dixie Chicks concert regarding Iraq. Natalie said, “We don’t want this war, we don’t want this violence and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas.” The president at the time? George W. Bush.
The Dixie Chicks never fully recovered from the fallout from those comments that found many country music fans and radio boycotting their music, and spawned a rift between them and Toby Keith.
And while that tweet seemed to make Natalie pause in thought for just a moment, it became abundantly clear how she is casting her vote in November.
“At this point I might vote for whichever candidate promises to make the airline industry decent again,” she tweeted. But only if it’s Clinton.” In her next tweet, she speculated, “I wonder if President Trump will make his ‘best’ decisions while lying in his tanning bed or getting his comb-around sprayed?”
