Kim Kardashian West’s obsession with social media might have finally backfired on her.

According to PEOPLE, her own tendency to show off her lavish lifestyle on social media could have contributed to a scary situation in Paris, where she was robbed at gunpoint in her own hotel room.

“Obviously she can’t be low-profile where she’s staying if she’s advertising what she’s doing and advertising her wealth,” Christopher Hagon, of the Incident Management Group, a Florida-based international security consulting firm, told PEOPLE. “If you’re constantly putting information out there, keeping your name in the public eye […] keeping details of your wealth in the public eye then you are […] increasing the chances of a possible attack.”

Kardashian West was held a gunpoint when two men entered her hotel room, bound her hands and feet and gagged her before ransacking her room. The thieves reportedly got away with nearly $10 million worth of jewelry, two cell phones, her purse and 1,000 euros before fleeing the scene on bicycles.

The suspects are still at large.

Hagon, who once served as a security officer for the royal family, believes the robbery was pre-meditated.

“It wasn’t something, like, they were just walking down the street and said, ‘Oh, I heard that Kardashian was here. Let’s just go in and rob her,'” he said. “This was an organized attack based on known information.”

Kardashian West reportedly begged the intruders for her life as it was going on. Her children, North and Saint, were not with her at the time.

She is no stranger to flaunting her lavish lifestyle on Instagram and Twitter for fans. She has been known to show off her expensive jewelry and clothing on a regular basis on social media.

Recently, she even shared an image of her $4 million engagement ring, which is rumored to be one of the items that was stolen.

According to Hagon, if Kardashian West is going to have a high-profile and active social media presence, she must have a security team to match it.

“Her threat level is high, because her wealth and activities are well known,” Hagon explained. “If you really are concerned about your personal security, then you’ve really got to make it as difficult as possible for people to hone in on you as a possible target.”

He suggested that next time, Kardashian West should make a reservation at one hotel but stay somewhere else at the last minute.

“You are soliciting or at least increasing the chances of a possible attack,” Hagon said. “The main goal of [the celebrity] and personal protection is to put as much distance as possible between a possible target and the threat.”
