North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory declared a state of emergency Wednesday as a second night of violent protests erupted in Charlotte, N.C., following the fatal police shooting of 43-year-old Keith Lamont Scott.
One person was shot by another civilian during the protests Wednesday night, authorities said. That person is alive and in critical condition.
Authorities also said four police officers were injured.
On Tuesday, Scott was fatally shot by Charlotte police Officer Brentley Vinson, who is black. Officers said Scott was armed and posed a threat. Police used tear gas to disperse protesters during the demonstrations that left about a dozen officers injured.
