Video footage released by police Monday shows the moment a thief walked into a Queens deli, pulled out a gun, and demanded money.
The unidentified man walked into the Grand Deli on Grand Ave. near 66th St. in Maspeth around 12:35 p.m. on Sept. 29, according to police. As soon as he approached the register, he pulled out a handgun and threatened the clerk working his shift.
Unexpectedly, the 34-year-old clerk didn’t let the thief get away with his plan so easily. He didn’t quite put up a fight, but he made the thief’s task a lot more difficult by continuing to shut the register each time the thief opened it up — even slamming the suspect’s hand in the drawer at one point.
According to the New York Daily News, the robber made off with about $150 in cash and swiftly fled the store. The suspect is a 6-foot-1 to 6-foot-2 white male, approximately 20 years old.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
