Rochell Steakley, who is a mother herself, told Fox 4 that she was just about to leave when she saw the baby in distress.

“That baby’s life was at stake,” she said. “Minutes mattered.”

Steakley smashed the window with a trailer hitch.

“I tried to hit the window with this with one hand but that didn’t work. So I just took it like a bat and hit it in the center, it shattered, and I was able to get in the car,” she said. “He was very hot, very limp, but he was breathing.”

According to police, it was at least 130 degrees in the car.

The child’s mother, 27-year-old Kimberly Rosario, has been arrested for abandoning and endangering a child. She told police that she forgot the child in the car and was getting an eye exam.

Steakley said that deep down she believes Rosario did not do this intentionally.

“I did see mom. In my heart of all hearts, I know that this was not intentional,” Steakley said.. “This was a very big mistake that she will have to live with for the rest of her life.”
