A driver fatally hit a pedestrian while intoxicated, then went to a Taco Bell drive-thru to grab a bite to eat, police say.

Robert A. Loranger, 66, of Massachusetts, thought he struck a cardboard box with his car instead of a person, according to an arrest report, the Republican reported.

According to the report, surveillance video shows Loranger at a Taco Bell in Springfield just before 11 a.m., after hitting Harry Fernandez, 51, with his 2013 white Cadillac on Friday.

Police say Loranger was taken into custody on Friday and pleaded not guilty to motor vehicle homicide while under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, possession of crack cocaine and negligent operation of a motor vehicle on Monday.

Inside the car, police said they found twelve pill bottles along with crack cocaine inside a pill bottle, the newspaper reported.

Fernandez was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
