After an eight-year hiatus from stand-up comedy, Chris Rock is making his triumphant return. And he’s making bank while he’s at it.
The 51-year-old comedian just signed a deal with Netflix for two specials, to the tune of $40 million. At $20 million per special, this makes him the highest paid comedian to do a special, beating out Louis C.K., Jerry Seinfeld and Amy Schumer.
“Chris Rock is a beloved actor and director, and his remarkable stand-up makes him comic royalty,” Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement. “There is no one like him, and Netflix offers the global platform and creative freedom that will serve as a perfect home for someone with his incredible talent.”
Rock’s first special won’t tape until 2017, and it has yet to be decided when the show will air or when the second show will begin taping. But until then, check out some of Chris Rock’s funniest moments on stage.
