In a statement to TMZ, Marty Singer, a powerful Hollywood lawyer who represents Jim Carrey, shot down claims that the famed comedic actor once gave his ex-girlfriend sexually transmitted diseases.

Mark Burton is suing Carrey, claiming that the actor was responsible for the suicide of Cathriona White. Carrey and White dated for several years, while Burton and White were in what Singer describes as a “sham marriage.”

Burton claimed in amended legal documents that Carrey gave White several STDs, which made her distraught after their breakup.

“Burton says Cathriona got tested and discovered she had Herpes Type I, Herpes Type 2 and Gonorrhea. He says Jim tried to pressure her to keep quiet about it, which she did,” TMZ reports.

After their breakup, Burton claims that White felt like “damaged goods” and that nobody would ever love her again, which ultimately led to her suicide.

According to Carrey’s lawyer, White and Burton “engaged in an illegal sham marriage in violation of the Federal law prohibiting marriage fraud to evade immigration laws.” To make a long story short, the claim is that they were in a so-called green card marriage.

News of Burton’s lawsuit against Carrey came almost one year to the day since White took her own life.

After her death, Carrey released a statement describing their love.

“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona. She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled,” Carrey said.¬†“My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”
