According to Page Six, the actor is planning to quit Hollywood altogether. Longtime friend and colleague Peter Fonda reportedly mused about the rumor to the gossip column.

“I think he is basically retired. I don’t want to speak for him, but he has done a lot of work, and he has done very well as a person financially,” Fonda said. “Sometimes people have a reason that you don’t know, and it’s not for me to ask. I don’t call him up and say, ‘Johnny,’ I call him Johnny Hop, ‘What are you doing?’ I would say, ‘How are you, how do you feel?’”

This isn’t the first time there was a rumor that Nicholson was finished. Four years ago, it was reported that he was going to take a step out of the spotlight due to “memory loss,” but his reps denied those claims.

Fonda does believe, however, that Nicholson may be tempted to make a comeback if the right role comes along, but, for now, it sounds like he could be taking a much-needed break.
