It seems like Brad Pitt isn’t going to make this divorce an easy one.
Angelina Jolie filed for divorce on Monday, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. According to sources, she really doesn’t like the way Pitt handles their six children and is asking the judge for full physical custody of the kids, allowing Pitt only visitation.
TMZ now reports that Pitt is fighting for joint custody. He does not want to prevent himself from co-parenting with Jolie, but he also doesn’t want to lose physical custody of the kids.
“There’s no chance that’s going to happen,” a source close to Pitt said of Jolie’s request for physical custody.
Pitt reportedly doesn’t want to hurt Jolie during the divorce but now that he’s going to fight her for the kids, things could get ugly. The couple reportedly hasn’t gotten along in months, and Jolie listed the official date of separation as September 15. Jolie claims that Pitt heavily indulges in marijuana and alcohol and said he has a temper, something she believes is a danger to her children.
Following news of the split, Pitt released a statement to PEOPLE.
“I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids,” he said in the statement. “I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”
Jolie’s attorney also released a statement about the divorce.
“This decision was made for the health of the family,” the attorney said. “She will not be commenting at this time, and asks that the family be given their privacy during this difficult time.”
