During Blake Shelton’s pre-show in the BSer’s Lounge, the country singer is often not only singing but also keeping the VIP audience in attendance in downright hysterics.

But sometimes, even Blake gets serious.

That’s exactly what happened on Oct. 7 during a Q&A session before his New York tour stop. As he was taking questions from fans, one asked, “If you could pick one artist that is no longer with us to hang out with, who would it be and why?”

Blake thought for a moment.

“I always go back to Conway Twitty,” Blake said as the audience applauded in agreement. “Conway is the guy that I kind of feel like doesn’t get the credit in my opinion that he deserves. I’m sure he gets a lot of credit, but he’s not celebrated enough for the success that he had. I’ve tried to emulate and base my career after him. I try to change my music up because not only do I want fans to stay interested but also I want to continue to be interested, and I always want to be looking for new sounds and things to sing about. When I listen to Conway’s catalog, from one song to the next, it was always a different experience and that’s what I love about him.”

Of course, Blake wasn’t serious for too long.

“He also had cool hair,” Blake chuckled. “His was similar to mine if I didn’t have a can of mousse in it.”
