It’s been a while since we’ve heard from country favorite Craig Morgan, but understandably so.
In July, Craig and his wife lost their son Jerry unexpectedly in a tragic accident as he was tubing with friends on a lake in Kentucky.
Craig, of course, cancelled numerous tour dates to be at home with his wife and children while they processed this unimaginable tragedy. He recently began sharing video and photos of himself and the family working and exploring their land west of Nashville, as well as the hunting expeditions filmed for his TV show. But the thing he hadn’t done yet, the thing that has the greatest potential for bringing out the vulnerability in any singer-songwriter, is go back into the writer’s room.
It seems that Craig has now crossed that threshold, and in a new Instagram video, he seems to be close to his normal, jovial self. He explains that it has been a while since he has written, but with beautiful and bubbly Maggie Rose over his shoulder he says, “Maggie Rose and I just sat down and wrote a frickin’ smash. It felt great.”
Slowly, the beloved country star is taking steps to his new normal, and those steps also include his upcoming “American Stories” concert experience with Third Day’s Mac Powell. The limited engagement will feature acoustic performances from both of the artists, along with special guests and an evening of, as the title implies, storytelling. The tour kicks off Oct. 29 in Peoria, Illinois.
