President Trump, a longtime businessman, real estate tycoon and reality star will be the first Republican to control the White House since President George W. Bush in 2009. Trump was sworn-in with his wife Melania, using a famed Bible once used by former President Abraham Lincoln, and was administered the oath by Chief Justice Roberts.

The rise of Trump correlated with a change in political rhetoric in the United States. At first, Trump’s presidential run wasn’t taken seriously, and was largely written off by the media. Throughout his campaign, Trump tapped into an angry, predominantly white working class section of the United States who felt that they had been left behind by former President Barack Obama.

By using his Twitter, and live rallies as his main means of communication, Trump amassed a near cult-like following. Despite several scandals, including allegations of sexual assault, dirty business and political dealings with the Russian government, Trump beat former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the November 2016 election.

In his first 100 days as president, Trump has promised to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, increase border security, eliminate several government agencies and bring jobs back to the United States.

Throughout his campaign, Trump ran on a promise to “Make America Great Again,” a promise which the nation hopes he upholds for the next four years.

During a dinner on Thursday night in Washington, D.C. Trump all but guaranteed it.

“The next time, four years from now, the next time we’re going to win the old-fashioned way, we’re going to win because we did so well, because it was so overwhelming, the thing that we did, because it was so beautiful.”
