Erickson praises Sen. Cruz’s leadership to defund Obamacare

The Erick Erickson Show | Posted on

On his program Wednesday afternoon, conservative talk radio host Erick Erickson praised the freshman Texas Senator Ted Cruz for his initiative and leadership to defund Obamacare, despite media and internal party critics.

“There are a lot of Republicans who are scared, they’re scared of being beaten up politically,” Erickson says. “Cruz said, ‘well yes,’ on Glenn Beck’s show. Glenn’s talking about it too. [Cruz] said the same thing on Andrea Tantaros’s show.”

“Cruz was talking about his push, along with fellow Republicans Mike Lee and Marco Rubio, to derail Obamacare by not supporting any budget or continuing resolution measures that provide funding for the signature health care law. Lee began the effort with a letter pressing colleagues to support the position.”

“Here is the important part of it,” Erickson explains. “On the one hand Cruz further bolsters his conservative bona fides and cred on the right. On the other, he risks alienating himself from other Republican senators on an issue that has only fueled the perception that congressional Republicans are at odds with one another.”

“Calling members of his own party scared on a contentious issue that has already relied up Senate Republicans is a perilous move.”

“Who cares?” Erickson asks. “Who cares?” he asks again, explaining that the criticism of his bold leadership is admirable.
