Nicholas Wig could have been a free man with some extra cash in his pocket. But, unfortunately, the pull of Facebook was too much for the 26-year-old Minnesota man to handle.

After burglarizing a South St. Paul home, Wig was arrested after logging on to Facebook while in the home and forgetting to log out, CBS Minnesota reports.

“World’s dumbest criminal,” the homeowner James Wood said. “I don’t know.”

Wood says that, when he came home on the night of June 19, he found that his credit cards, cash and watch were all stolen.

Wood also discovered that Wig had left behind jeans, a belt and a pair of tennis shoes that had been soaked by rain water.

“I started to panic,” Wood said. “But then I noticed he had pulled up his Facebook profile.”

Using the thief’s profile, Wood posted that Wig had robbed him, providing his number in case anyone had any information. Wig texted Wood, who asked if there was a way he could return the clothes to him.

According to Wood, Wig assumed that he would get his clothes back in exchange for the recycled cellphone that he had also stolen. But, when Wood saw Wig walking in his neighborhood, Wood immediately called police and Wig was arrested.

“I’ve never seen this before,” Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom said. “It’s a pretty unusual case, might even make the late-night television shows in terms of not being too bright.”

If found guilty, Wig could face up to 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines.
