Actor Gary Sinise didn’t spend his Thanksgiving like most.

The “Forrest Gump” actor, who is a huge supporter of the American armed forces, spent his Thanksgiving Day serving meals to the enlisted at Kandahar Air Force Base in Afghanistan.

He wrote and shared the following message of prayer and thanks online:

An honor to serve Thanksgiving dinner to our Troops at Kandahar Air Force Base, Sending a special thank you to all who serve. Thanksgiving prayer for our Troops Thank you, Lord, for the courage and selfless service of our military troops. Thank you for their dedication in the face of difficulties and challenges. Thank you for their families. I pray that all of our servicemen and women will experience Your mercy each day, and that You will provide for their every need. Let them feel your presence with them, and your everlasting love. In Christ’s name, http://www.whosay.com/l/rvic3Nv 2009.

Several noted that Sinise acted in a way a president would:

President Obama spent his Thanksgiving in the White House:

The New York Post reports that he also “made nine telephone calls to service members who are on deployment.”

Others had nothing but praise for the actor:

We hope that Sinise and those he served overseas had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal!
