Jimmy Groover’s store, Dixie Gun and Pawn, was the scene of an attempted armed robbery turned fatal.

Groover told 11Alive that he had no other choice but to grab his gun and pull the trigger, killing one of the assailants.

“Get down on the floor, get down on the floor or I’ll kill you,” Groover said the suspects demanded. “Then they shot at me.”

“I had no other choice. I had no other choice. I hate that it happened,” he said. “I’ve been doing this 30 years. Nothing like this has ever happened. I never wanted this to happen, but I want to go home at night, too.”

“I hate it. I really do,” he said. “I hate it. I hate it bad.”

The second suspect fled the scene and is still being searched for by police.

The store has been burglarized at least 20 times.

It is considered unlikely that Groover would be charge with a crime and likely that he acted in self-defense.
