When Brooks Hamby prepared his graduation remarks for his high school senior class, he was told he needed to take away any reference to the importance his faith and God had on his life.

Hamby used his school’s attempt to censor his speech as a parable for the types of decisions he and his fellow graduates would soon have to face on a daily basis.

“In life, you will be told, ‘No.’ In life, you will be told to do things that you have no desire to do. In life, you will be asked to do things that violate your conscience and desire to do what is right,” Hamby told the class of Brawley Union High School in Brawley, California.

Before departing by reciting a passage from the Bible, Hamby gave his classmates one last bit of advice they won’t forget anytime soon.

“The advice I give to you is this: No man or woman has ever truly succeeded or been fulfilled on the account of living for others and not standing on what they knew in their heart was right or good.”
