Attention, new moms — if you’ve just had a baby, here’s what you do.

First, stop comparing yourselves to other moms! There is no such thing as “the mom I should be.” Keep in mind that every single mother you see is panicked inside, regardless of how calm she seems. (And if they say they don’t worry, they’re lying.)

Find the moms who will keep it real and tell you the truth! (Like me!)

Be your own boss. Don’t let society or others tell you what’s right for you and your baby.

Only you will know when you’re ready to start working out again. Listen to your body. (Although it’s probably a good idea to check with your doctor too.)

Accept help when it’s offered, and don’t feel guilty about it. I wish I’d asked for more help in the days after I gave birth!

And don’t worry — you will sleep again! It may not seem like it right now, but you will. Promise!

By the way, I also have advice for the partners and friends of women who have just had babies!
