Early Tuesday morning, President-elect Donald Trump tweeted his support for imprisoning and revoking citizenship of those who burn the U.S. flag.

Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) quoted Trump’s tweet, telling his followers that while he disagreed with the action, the ability to do so was already protected under the Constitution.

He also had an important message for Trump: “No president is allowed to burn the First Amendment:”

Amash did not endorse Trump during the election. Following a controversy involving lewd comments about women, Amash joined a growing list of Republican politicians who refused to defend Trump or asked him to step down:
