Prince Harry, 32, in response to a wave of vicious attacks against his new girlfriend Meghan Markle, 35, issued an official statement condemning said attacks and confirming his relationship with the American “Suits” actress.

The statement, issued by Kensington Palace, said, “[Prince Harry’s] girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment. Some of this has been very public – the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments.”

Earlier, it was reported that Prince William, 34, did not approve of his brother’s public statement regarding his girlfriend and said that he was “hot-headed” and shouldn’t have made his feelings public so early in the relationship.

However, Prince William is pushing back against those claims.

In a statement to The Telegraph, Kensington Palace affirmed Prince William’s support for Prince Harry’s actions, saying, “The Duke of Cambridge absolutely understands the situation concerning privacy and supports the need for Prince Harry to support those closest to him.”

A royal insider also told The Telegraph that neither Prince Harry nor Prince William wanted to issue such a statement, but due to the escalating attacks, they felt they had no choice.

“They don’t issue statements like that without talking to each other, and they talked about the Meghan Markle statement extensively in advance of it being put out. The Duke was as alarmed as anyone about what was happening with Meghan.”
