“I’m definitely failing as a parent right now, just being out of her life,” Richmond City Jail inmate Ronnell Glasgow, serving seven years for selling drugs, said of his little girl before suiting up for the jail-wide father-daughter dance.

The event was an opportunity to remind those behind bars that they have something worth fighting for.

“They are not hardcore criminals. They can be very good citizens and the best way to make good citizens is to make good fathers,” Richmond City Sheriff C.T. Woody told ABC News.

Fathers and daughters alike broke down in tears throughout the course of the hour-long event.

The event, according to ABC News, began in 2012 thanks to Angela Patton, director of Richmond-area nonprofit “Diva Camp,” which aims to encourage young girls.
