Jim Carrey isn’t going to stay quiet when it comes to this shocking allegation.
On Monday, Carrey was hit with a wrongful death lawsuit that claimed he provided drugs under a false name to his ex-girlfriend Cathriona White, who died of an overdose in September 2015.
The lawsuit was reportedly filed by White’s estranged husband, Mark Burton, who claims the actor gave White the Ambien, Percocet and Propranolol that killed her.
TMZ reports that Marty Singer, Carrey’s attorney, refuted all of Burton’s claims. He reportedly said that the marriage between Burton and White was a “sham” that would prevent her from being deported to her native Ireland. White and Burton never lived together, and Carrey’s attorney threw the claim that Burton suffered a great loss out the window.
Carrey also responded to the allegations, saying, “There are moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honor against the evil in this world. I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved.”
He continued, “Cat’s troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone’s control. I really hope someday soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace.”
