The intense debate regarding Ryan’s facial hair was fleeting, however, as he made the disappointing decision to shave at the beginning of the following year.
But there might be a new beard on Capitol Hill.
MSNBC host Joe Scarborough inquired about Sen. Tom Cotton’s (R-Ark.) facial trends during a Wednesday “Morning Joe” interview. Following a series of questions on important Senate happenings, Scarborough made a joke about Cotton’s follicles.
“All right. Tom Cotton, thank you for being with us. By the way, you — you probably were late getting to work. You forgot to shave this morning,” Scarborough quipped.
Cotton’s response gave pogonophiles everywhere hope.
“I grew a winter beard and I’ve got the one force that mostly causes men to shave their beard — their wives at home,” he said. But according to Cotton, his wife, Anna, likes the scruff.
“My wife likes my beard and so I’m going to keep it for a while,” he promised.
Perhaps Cotton will inspire some of his colleagues to do the same.
