We all know George Strait as the current King of Country Music, but you may not realize he’s also a military veteran. George served in the Army in the ’70s, and now he’s doing his part to help those men and women who have been wounded in the line of duty.

George just held his sixth annual golf invitational at The Resort at Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort, and the event raised $1.1 million for the Feherty’s Troops First Foundation. The organization helps patients recovering from serious combat injuries.

This year’s event raised the most money of any of their previous tournaments. The total for all six years now tops the $3 million mark.

In addition to the golf tournament and auction, folks attending the event were treated to a concert from George and his pal, Jamey Johnson. Jamey is one of George’s co-writers on his new box set, “Strait Out of the Box: Part 2,” due out Nov. 18.
