In her new book, “Kathy Griffin’s Celebrity Run-Ins: My A-Z Index,” Griffin dishes on all kinds of celebrities she’s spent time with. In one particular chapter, she tells a story about a “daytime talk show host” with a “mean streak everyone knows about.” The comedian just confirmed with New York Daily News that she’s talking about Ellen DeGeneres.
“I can’t prove it. I heard she got me kicked out,” Griffin said, recalling a time when she was kicked out of the backstage dressing room at the Emmys. This follows her 2006 claim that DeGeneres also “banned” her from “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
“My issue with Ellen is simple,” the star of “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List” said. “You know, the guys in comedy are so good about sticking together. I feel sad that women don’t support each other the way the guys do. Joan [Rivers] and I would talk about this all the time. Patriarchy pits us against each other.”
Griffin is hopeful, however, that the younger generation of female comedians is doing a better job of empowering each other.
“You look at the younger women like Amy Schumer and Lena Dunham,” she said. “They’ve got production companies, and they’re getting stuff done.”
No word yet from DeGeneres on what she has to say on the matter.
