It’s been 35 years since Tom Petty saddled up next to Stevie Nicks to give us the rock ‘n’ roll staple “Stop Dragging My Heart Around.” So when Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood set off to co-headline the Love, Pain & The Whole Crazy Carnival Ride Tour in 2008, no one expected them to rock out on this classic song.

The timing could not have been more perfect for either of the country superstars. Keith had just won his second Grammy Award, and Carrie’s album “Some Hearts” had been the top-selling country album of the previous year.

A press release announcing the tour at the time referred to it as, ” a 24-city tour that combines the music of two of the music industry’s most powerful performers.” And this clip from one of their first stops in Atlanta could not prove that even more.

Carrie Underwood emerged from the shadows during Keith Urban’s set, and the two of them absolutely nailed this performance for the packed crowd.

Their chemistry is what made this performance so incredibly cool. If you didn’t know any better, you’d think this song belonged to them, but that’s what makes country such cool music. As good as records can be, the live performance rides a wave you can never manufacture in a studio.
